Amenities
Maya Breeze Inn is located in Maya Beach, one of the narrowest portions of the Placencia Peninsula. The Inn includes the main building with a breakfast kitchen. Currently there are four beach cabins (the fourth cabin is split into upstairs and downstairs suites for a total of 5 units) located directly on the beach with plans to add four hotel rooms on the lagoon side. Guests have access to our ocean pier to relax, swim in the ocean or depart for snorkeling.

The beach cabins are fully furnished, have kitchenettes with small fridges, hot plates, coffee pots and basic cookware. They are decorated with locally designed and crafted Belizean hardwood furniture, and Guatemalan arts and fabrics.

Activities
Maya Breeze Inn caters to those guests who are looking for active adventure tours. Scuba diving, snorkeling and prime fishing grounds are found only a few miles offshore. Day trips can be arranged to explore the jungles, bird watching, Maya ruins, cave exploration or even mountain rappelling.

You can walk the beach, swim in the ocean, play beach volleyball, go kayaking, ride bicycles or relax in the Inn’s ocean front veranda or ocean pier.

SCUBA DIVING
Belize is well publicized for having the second largest barrier reef in the world at 220 kilometers long and over 1000 cayes. It also is known for having three major offshore atolls. Placencia has some of the most virgin and spectacular dive sites in Belize with over 50 cayes and 400 miles of reef. From the Maya Breeze Inn there is False Caye located just off the beach and ten miles directly off shore there are numerous cayes for world class snorkeling. Outside the reef there are unbelievable caves and wall diving starting from 45 feet.

Your two-tank dive trip starts at 9:00 a.m. with a brief boat trip to the inner cayes. There, the snorkelers will disembark for an hour on a pristine caye, covered in palm trees, white sandy beaches and some of the best snorkeling you will find. The divers will stay on board for a brief trip to the outer barrier reef. There, they will experience water temperatures between 78 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit, and visibility, weather dependent, can range from 50-150 feet. There are numerous coral wall formations, large sponges and abundant fish.

The divers then join the snorkel group back at the Caye for a picnic lunch, brief surface interval with more snorkeling. The whole group then moves to another Caye to experience more snorkeling and the dive group takes another dive on an inner caye.

Then a short boat ride brings you back to the Maya Breeze Inn for an evening of relaxation.

SNORKELING
False Caye is located just off shore from Maya Breeze Inn in Maya Beach. For a 5-minute boat ride you can experience great snorkeling. For those wanting a full day of snorkeling, there are several Cayes approximately 10 miles off shore from Maya Breeze Inn. There you will have 50-150 ft visibility and waters that average 78-86 degrees fahrenheit. These reefs are filled with numerous tropical fish, rays and you might even see a manatee.

For those who want to spend a day snorkeling, a trip to the outer cayes is a must. Your trip starts at 9:00 a.m. with a 40-minute boat ride to the outer cayes. There, you will disembark for an hour on a pristine caye, covered in palm trees, white sandy beaches and some of the best snorkeling you can find. These cayes are relatively untouched with about 40 different snorkeling sites such as Laughing Bird, and Queen Caye. These cayes are protected from wind and generally calm waters year round. You can expect to see numerous soft and hard corals, colorful tropical reef fish, stingrays, dolphins, and at the right time of year, even a whale shark. A barbecue lunch is provided on the caye followed by more snorkeling.

MAYAN RUINS
Our first Mayan ruin tour is of Nim Li Punit located 25 miles north of Punta Gorda Town atop a ridge in the foothills of the Maya Mountains. Discovered in 1976, preliminary excavations at this ceremonial center indicate it was important during the late classic period. There are 25 stelae found at the site; at least eight are carved. One remains the tallest carved stele in Belize at 9 meters tall.

Our second tour is to Xunantunich, located only 8 miles west of San Ignacio. It was the first major Maya ruin in Belize to be excavated and in 1954 was the first made available to the public. It now houses a well regarded on-site museum. Visitors cross the river on a ferry--with their car if they don't want to hike the additional mile to the ruin site. Most tours of the Cayo District include a visit to Xunantunich.

Xunantunich is believed to have been built sometime during 150-900 A.D. It contains six ceremonial plazas surrounded by small house mounds, and one of the tallest Maya structures in Belize, a 135-foot structure known as El Castillo which provides commanding views of the Belize River, Macal, and Mopan valleys, as well as the the ruins themselves.

Our third package is a two day tour to Tikal in Guatemala with an overnight stay in San Ignacio. Located in the first National Park in Central America about 50 northwest of the Belize border, Tikal is the most extensive of all Mayan ruins. Once a city of more than 100,000 Maya, today Tikal extends over six square miles and has over 3000 ancient structures including temples, ceremonial platforms, ball courts, palaces, terraces, plazas, and steam baths. Tikal National Park is also remarkable for it’s natural setting, diverse vegetation, tropical flowers and abundant wildlife. Visitors can see howler monkeys, toucans, scarlet macaws, parrots, brocket deer, white lipped peccary, coati-mundis, ocelots and on rare occasions, jaguar. This combination of archeological and natural riches is why Tikal is the only location in the world which has been declared both a Natural Heritage for Humanity Site and Cultural Heritage for Humanity Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

CAVE EXPLORATION
There are many caves to explore in Belize. In the Belmopan area there are a number of caves that can be explored. You can float on an inner tube or raft underground on the Caves Branch River while you gaze around at glittering formations, stalactites, stalagmites and ancient Maya artifacts.

A few miles west of Belmopan is a newly discovered cave. Archeologists have discovered and archived several Maya artifacts including numerous pots, jade axes and skeletal remains. Archeologists have trained and certified five local tour guides to tour this cave. Maya Breeze Inn is working closely with the tour guides to share this beautiful cave experience.

This tour is for the fit adventurer. A 40-minute hike takes you through the jungle, crossing the river five times. At the cave opening, you will find a brief swim into the first portion of the cave. You will see numerous glittering formations while hiking to the Maya artifacts. After a brief break and lunch in the inner part of the cave, you will find yourself in a large chamber filled with Maya artifacts. Many are pots left intact and untouched. This tour includes some rappelling down cliffs, jungle hiking, cave exploration, and Maya artifacts for a fun-filled seven hours. To make the most of this trip, Maya Breeze Inn will arrange overnight stays in San Ignacio.

All cave tours include headlamps, helmets, climbing ropes and lunch.

JAGUAR PRESERVE
The world's only Jaguar Preserve is only a 1 hour drive from Placencia. Also known as the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Preserve, it covers an area of approximately 150 square miles. Belize's jaguar preserve is a wildlife sanctuary etched in the middle of the jungle, south of Dangriga. It features nature trails and even the chance of seeing the jaguar.

Besides the Jaguar, Cockscomb Basin is home to other cats as such the puma, ocelot and jaguarundi and many other animals including the Baird's tapir the national animal of Belize. The Cockscomb Basin is also home to over 290 species of birds.

JUNGLE HIKING
North of Placencia is the Hummingbird highway and within 45 minutes you will be in a lush jungle. At the Blue Hole you will find an underground river where you can hike, picnic or bird watch.

Another exciting hike is the Mayflower Archaeological Reserve, situated in the Maya Mountains. This site has three Maya ruins, the Mayflower, T’au Witz, and Maintzunun digs. Along the hike you can see two sizable waterfalls.

You can take a hike through the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary. Here, there are jaguars, ocelots, margays and howler monkeys in the forest. Overhead in the canopy are tropical birds such as parrots, mot mots, toucans and migratory scarlet macaws, great for birdwatchers. These jungle trails consist of a variety of plants, flowers and trees.

SPORT FISHING
Placencia is known for one of the best bone fishing in the world. It is strictly catch and release so be prepared for barbless hooks. The abundance of sand flats makes for a wide variety to try your hand at this type of fishing. This area is also known for excellent fishing for tarpon, snook, permit, barracuda, king mackerel, grouper, snappers, tuna, blue marlins, jacks and more.

The local certified guides are very experienced and will provide fishing gear although it is best to bring your own.
