There is also a bus that you can take, make sure to get on the direct to Playa del Carmen bus, there is one that stops at all the hotels and takes forever. The bus ride is only $8 per person. In May the ferry was $7 per person one way, it is best to buy round trip ferry ticket. Ferries run every hour and take about 30 minutes to cross depending on the weather, which is apparently sucking right now with Emily just passing by. Have a great trip, best place in the world, we bought a home there 2 years ago and love it.

There are also "collectivos" or vans that carry more than one person, therefore, less expensive.
