Amenities Casita (Double occupancy, sea view)
Our largest and newest cabana (built in January 2002) is situated on the highest part of the property, where the cabañas of Copal end and the tropical jungle flows into a sea of green. Perched on the top of a rocky cliff with easy beach access, this private casita has a spectacular 180° sea view with windows from ceiling to floor. Rate is per cabaña, based on maximum 2 guests.
Seaview Quad (Quadruple occupancy, sea view)
Seven of our cabañas have two queen size beds and a private bathroom (toilet, sink, and shower with hot water). These are all built of wood native to the peninsula in the traditional Mayan style and are stuccoed on the inside. All have natural stone or cement floors. The cabañas have a spectacular panoramic view of the sea and a combination of glass and screen windows for optimal ventilation. The cabanas with private bathrooms are perfect for families who prefer the convenience of having a private bathroom. These rooms sleep up to four people, but a hammock may be added upon request to sleep a fifth person. We also have one cabana with king size bed and two bunk beds, perfect for a couple with two children. All beds are equipped with mosquito nets for your comfort during the rainy season. Rate is per cabaña, based on maximum 4 guests.
We also offer a gardenview quad cabana. Seaview king (Double occupancy, sea view)
These are our most popular cabañas among couples, with a series of windows to enjoy the sea view. They have one king size bed and cement floors. These cabañas are perfect for couples seeking a relaxing, romantic getaway.
All bathrooms have toilet, sink, and shower with hot water. All cabanas have a combination of screen and glass windows for air circulation, but the seaview cabanas are definitely breezier than gardenview cabanas. Rate is per cabaña, based on maximum 2 guests.
We also offer a Partial Seaview King and a Gardenview King.
Activities Planning a trip to Tulum, but not sure how many nights to stay? Wondering if you´ll be bored by the second day? Check out this list of ideas for a fun-packed vacation.
If you are interested in a transfer from the Cancun airport directly to Copal, or a car rental for all or part of your stay, please let us know.
Scooters are also available for rent here in Tulum pueblo, as well as bicycles, which can be rented in our Reception.
Scuba gear and snorkeling equipment is also available for rent here at Copal, in case you do not have or do not bring your own gear. One of the most popular activities that are specific to this area is cave and cavern diving in the various cenotes (natural freshwater pools) of the region. We also recommend swimming straight off the coast at Copal to see the coral reef.
Tulum is an excellent place to just relax or to fill your visit with activities. The Tulum archaeological site is within walking distance from Copal, and make a beautiful walk along the beach to the north. Bring your swimsuit, because there is a beautiful swimming place just in front of the ruins to cool off in the afternoons.
The Cobá ruins are located about 45 minutes from Tulum along a quiet highway through the jungle and are well worth visiting by either car or bus. The ruins are located near the pueblo of Coba, which has developed around a beautiful quiet lagoon. There are several small restaurants with open terraces with a view of the lagoon where you can have breakfast before visiting the ruins. We offer guided tours to Coba.
It is also possible to make daytrips to Chichén Itza from Tulum, by either bus or car. The trip takes about two hours in a car, more by bus. Don´t forget to visit Chichén viejo, which is one kilometer south of the ruin known as "the nunnery," down a dirt road. Follow the signs near the nunnery.
Also on the way to Coba is the monkey sanctuary of Punta Laguna, which is a small island in the middle of another lagoon and is one of the best places in the world to see spider monkeys in their natural habitat. It is not a natural park, but rather the home of the monkeys with a small station for biologists to research the communities. Canoes can be rented to cross the lagoon to the island. We offer guided tours to Punta Laguna.
The Sian Ka'an biosphere reserve is another favorite destination of visitors to the area, and the entrance is located just 5 km. South of Copal, along the road to Punta Allan. There are several groups here in town that take visitors on a guided tour of the reserve with an explanation of all the natural highlights. We offer several options to visit the Sian Ka´an biosphere reserve, either by boat, jeep, or air conditioned van. They also offer tours to Xel-Há and Aktun Chen, which is a large cave system just north of Tulum along the main highway.
We offer daylong trips through the jungle, including visits to up to eight secluded cenotes, in a nearby jungle reserve. We also offer boat trips out to the reef for snorkeling. We also rent bicycles and snorkel gear.
Temazcal The magic of fire and water When you´re getting ready to wind down in the evening, enjoy a great meal at our restaurant. After, why not try our temazcal, a traditional Mexican ceremonial steam bath? This unique experience lasts for at least two hours, and for many can be good for healing ailments such as rheumatism, arthritis, varicose veins, muscle tension, asthma, cardiovascular illnesses, nervious tension, as well as refreshing and rejuvenating the skin. If you think you may experience an adverse reaction to a sweatbath, please check with your physician before coming. Using song, the group will endure the heat inside the temazcal, as steaming rocks are periodically carried in from the fire pit. As you leave, you are encouraged to take a cold shower and dress warmly to avoid catching a breeze while we regroup around the altar to share our experiences. After we will meet in the restaurant for a late night rice pudding. The temazcal is currently operating every Thursday night at 9:00 p.m.
The History
For thousands of years, since before the arrival of the Spaniards, the indigenous people of Mexico have practiced a purifying steam bath that cleans the blood, clears the skin and the mind, and frees the spirit.
Our temazcal, or steam bath, is based on traditional healing methods used by indigenous Mexicans in which the properties of fire and water are combined to purify the mind, body, and soul.
We also offer free yoga classes every morning at 8:00 a.m.
