ORIGINAL MESSAGE / QUESTION / TRIP REPORT:
Cozumel vs Playa
Posted By Janet on 11-29-2002 3:19:19pm
We went to Playacar last Summer for 12 days, and loved it. We had plenty to keep us busy, including taking the ferry to Cozumel to dive, shop, etc. Would this new, all-inclusive resort give us as much to do for the same length of time? We stayed at the Riu Palace, which was all inclusive. Has anyone been to the Occidental Cozumel yet? We heard/read it's beautiful.

Were thinking of booking the Allegra all inclusive for Xmas vacation. Is the food good? Are there a lot of things to do? |

Go to Cozumel - lon Posted on: 04-02-2003 8:21:39am
If you really want to stay at a great hotel at Cozumel, it is definately the Presidente Inter-Continental. I have been to Cozumel well over ten times and have stayed at many hotels. There is not one I have seen in the world that compares to the Presidente. Have you ever heard of combing a beach so it is flat for the customers. They do it. The emplyees have to be the friendliest people I have dealt with. The restaurants are good but overpriced. However, that is the beauty of not staying at an all-inclusive resort; you actually get to see the island and its ethnicity. Do not spend thousands to go to an island and be at one place the entire time. Go to great restaurants like La Mission and Primos. Either way, All-inclusive or not, Cozumel is the best place in Mexico that I have been. Enjoy the island. |

Is it true that a jacket is required @ Allegro Grand @ 2 restaurants? Been to Allegra Cozumel and it sure seems tooo hot to ever put on a jacket. Hopefully we are just mis-informed. |

My wife and I just returned from playacar and cozumel. We spent a week at the Occidental Caribbean village and a week at the allegro cozumel. The later was a much nicer property, on a nice beach. Rooms were good, not extravagant but a mile ahead of the caribbean village. These are my first all inclusives we've visited so only have the two for comparisons. For sightseeing Cozumel does not offer alot other than San Miguel and snorkeling and scuba and some mayan ruin sights not nearly as impressive as those on the mainland. The snorkelling and diving are good here. There is more touring to be done on the mainland if you are into doing them. Ourselves did a excellent tour involving ziplineing and repelling, visiting a small village, winding up with a tour of Coba. |

Hi Janet,
You say "New" in your question. The Allegro Cozumel Resort is NOT a new resort on Cozumel. It's been around for awhile. I would consider this resort to be average to a bit above average. Some people like it, others don't. I have not been to the Riu Palace, but I would venture a good guess that it is much nicer the the Allegro Resort in Coz.
However, the Occidental Grand Cozumel is the new resort that is offered by the same company. http://www.caribbeantrip.com/nhotels/grandcozumel/
I have read this is a "great" place.
